Paul Mescal worked his Irish charm on YouTube host Amelia Dimoldenberg for the newest episode of her massively popular Chicken Shop Date series.

For the unfamiliar, Chicken Shop Date, which boasts more than 2.2 million followers on YouTube, is "an interview series that awkwardly combines romance and fried chicken."

Kildare native Paul is the latest in a long line of celebrities that have appeared on Chicken Shop Date, which is filmed in the UK at - you guessed it - a chicken shop.

Amelia gets down to business quickly on her latest date, asking Paul if he likes Guinness - before quickly adding, "Is that offensive to say to an Irish person?"

“No! It’s actually not," Paul says. "This is actually quite topical for me at the moment. I’ve recently gotten into Guinness, which is kind of sacrilegious for an Irish person to say.”

“Interesting you say that," Amelia says as she takes out a pint of Guinness, "because I’ve also recently gotten into Guinness.”

"Great! Are we gonna have - did you get one -" Paul says, looking for another pint.

"I just got one for me," Amelia says flatly.

The two toast their drinks - Amelia's Guinness to Paul's soda - before Paul asks Amelia if she likes Guinness.

“Yeah I love - I love it," she says, barely hiding her sarcasm as she begins to sip her pint.

“Hold on!" Paul interjects. "Before you do this - there’s a thing where you have to split the G. Have you heard about this?”

Amelia asks Paul to tell her what it is, and he says: “See the G on the Guinness? You’ve got to split that with your first sip.”

Amelia is gobsmacked. "What! You've got to drink that much Guinness?!"

Amelia gives it her best try as Paul looks on laughing. When she doesn't even come close to 'splitting the G', Paul says with a laugh, "That's polite."

After chatting about their astrological signs, ideas of romance, and Paul's deft cornering of the "sexy sad" genre, Amelia asked Paul what Gaelic football is.

In a shrewd and not incorrect analysis, Paul says: "It's where lots of sad, sexy men run around in tiny shorts."

"Oh my god," Amelia replied. "Is that how you got your thighs?"

"Yeah," Paul said with a laugh. "That and genetics."

He continues: "Gaelic football is the national sport in Ireland and I used to play it."

Amelia joked that Paul must not have been very good because he went into acting instead of going professional.

"It's an amateur sport, so you can't get paid doing it," Paul explained. "It's kind of amazing because then people don't do like - it's not corrupted by money."

After the video premiered on YouTube, Amelia cheekily commented: "I think this is one of the best dates I’ve ever been on (minus the Guinness).

"Paul is clearly obsessed with me ❤ but as you know I’m very busy so I’ll check my schedule and see if I’m free for a second date x."
