Believed to be more than 1,600 years old, the pagan idol was discovered in a bog in the townland of Gortnacrannagh, which is just 6km from the prehistoric royal site of Rathcroghan.
Most tourists, both Irish and international, will be unfamiliar with Rathcroghan in County Roscommon, but it used to be Ireland's ancient royal capital.
