Sinéad O'Connor's estate has demanded that former US President Donald Trump "desist" from using her music at his political rallies.

A joint statement from O'Connor's estate and record label Chrysalis Records said the late Irish singer would have been "disgusted, hurt, and insulted" that her version of "Nothing Compares 2 U" was used at a recent Trump rally.

Trump, who is the frontrunner to win the Republican candidate ahead of the US presidential election in November, used the song at a campaign event in Maryland on February 24.

The former president also used Abba's "Dancing Queen", Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire", and Elvis Presley's "Suspicious Minds" during the event.

“Throughout her life, it is well known that Sinéad O’Connor lived by a fierce moral code defined by honesty, kindness, fairness, and decency towards her fellow human beings," the joint statement from O'Connor's estate and Chrysalis Records said, according to the PA.

“It was with outrage therefore that we learned that Donald Trump has been using her iconic performance of Nothing Compares 2 U at his political rallies.

“It is no exaggeration to say that Sinéad would have been disgusted, hurt and insulted to have her work misrepresented in this way by someone who she herself referred to as a ‘biblical devil’.

“As the guardians of her legacy, we demand that Donald Trump and his associates desist from using her music immediately.”

Dublin native O'Connor, who died last July from natural causes, rose to international superstardom with her cover of Prince's "Nothing Compares 2 U," which featured on her Grammy-winning album "I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got."

In 2018, the Irish songstress accused Trump of 'spewing satanic filth.'

A number of other artists, including Neil Young, Adele, and Rihanna, have also demanded that Trump desist from using their music at political rallies.
