A new documentary links future Royal Meghan Markle with one of history's most notorious serial killers, 'Jack the Ripper'.

A Channel 4 investigation into the Markle's roots claims that the former actress has a shocking connection.

The Los Angeles native's family tree was studied as part of a new documentary, "Meet the Markles", which is stated to air tomorrow.

The show claims that Markle is related to Herman Webster Mudgett, better known as America's first serial killer H H Holmes.

Some experts believe that Holmes was the real Jack the Ripper, an unidentified killer who ran rampant in London's Whitechapel area in 1888.

The show points to evidence that Markle is related to Mudgett through years of marriage in her family tree.

American lawyer Jeff Mudgett, a descendant of Holmes, agreed to be interviewed on the show.

Mudgett believes Holmes was his great-great-grandfather. He has studied the notes left by the Ripper and compared them to Holmes' handwriting.

"We did a study with the FBI and CIA and Scotland Yard regarding handwriting analysis," Mudgett said.

"It turns out he was Jack the Ripper. This means Meghan is related to Jack the Ripper. I don't think the Queen knows. I am not proud he is my ancestor. Meghan won't be either," he added.

H H Holmes, who styled himself as Dr Henry Howard Holmes, ran a horrific hotel in Chicago where up to 200 victims were thought to have met their end in a series of violent and gruesome ways. The notorious bigamist and con artist only ever confessed to nine murders, and was executed in 1896.

As for Jack the Ripper, his real identity still baffles historians.

It's believed that Holmes travelled to London in the late 1880s, around the time the Ripper was brutalizing and murdering a string of young female sex workers women in the East End.

At least three of the women had internal organs removed by the killer, which would be in keeping with Holmes' surgical knowledge.

Markle (36) is of African American, Dutch, English, and Irish descent.

Her great-great-great-grandmother Mary Smith emigrated to London from Ireland and married a British soldier named Thomas Bird sometime in the mid-1800s.

Her Irish family apparently disowned her, likely because she married a  member of the imperial army.

in a twist of fate, experts reckon she may well have worked in Windsor Castle for the Royal family as there is an M. Bird listed as a servant in 1856!

The former "Suits" star will marry Prince Harry later this week.
