The remarkable friendship between Donegal labrador Ben and his dolphin pal Duggie, which went viral a couple of years ago, is still making headlines.
Ben and Duggie swim together every day off at Middletown, on Tory Island, sometimes spending up to three hours a time together, said Ben’s owner, Pat Doohan, according to The Epoch Times.
Duggie, a female dolphin, lost her mate in 2006. That’s when she started to come into the Middletown harbor.
Duggie the Dolphin & Ben the Dog - Donegal, Ireland
'You've got a friend' On Tory Island, off the Donegal coast, a Labrador named Ben swims out to the harbour every day to go and meet his best friend. His best friend’s name is Duggie, a wild dolphin who made Tory Island his home. According to residents, when Duggie lost her dolphin mate, she stayed in the area off the Donegal coast where her partner died. Fortunately, Duggie soon met the seafaring labrador, Ben, and they’ve spent their days playing together since. When dolphin pods come by, Duggie visits with them for a while, then soon returns to her home and best friend. According to his owner, local hotelier, Pat Doohan, Ben and Duggie could spend up to three hours at a time and several times a day frolicking and playing in the sea. “Occasionally a school of dolphins will go by and she will join them. When I see them I think she will forget the island and go back to her wild ways but she never does.” he said.Publiée par Rare Irish Stuff sur Mardi 13 février 2018
Duggie soon met Ben and they’ve played together nearly every day since.
Incredible footage of the two playing together was captured by a BBC camera crew a few years ago.
Adam Henson, presenter of the BBC show “Countryfile” said, “This is absolutely amazing…Swimming around in the water, I have never seen anything like it.”
