The New York Irish Center is marking St. Brigid's Day by celebrating distinguished New York Irish women at the center's inaugural Women of Ireland Awards.

"Women of Ireland - A New York Celebration" - which is strictly by invitation only - takes place at the New York Irish Center in Long Island City at 6:30 pm tonight, Thursday, February 1.

The event will honor three distinguished New York Irish women, including American Express Global Business Travel Partner Corina Galvin, who will receive the Women of Ireland Community Leadership Award on Thursday night.

Sinead Naughton, who owns and operates a number of hospitality establishments in New York City, will receive the Women of Ireland Business Leadership Award, while musician, actress, comedian, and writer Fiona Walsh will receive the Women of Ireland Cultural Leadership Award.

All three recipients are the inaugural recipients of their respective awards.

After receiving her award, Walsh will turn DJ and provide musical entertainment on the night.

Thursday's event will be presented by the reigning Rose of Tralee Róisín Wiley, a native of Rochester who won the famous competition last August as the New York Rose.

Meanwhile, Consul-General of Ireland Helena Nolan will host a brief panel discussion featuring Andrea Haughian, Executive Vice-President of Invest Northern Ireland, author Yvonne Cassidy, and New York City Council Member Julie Won, who represents the 26th District of the Council including Long Island City and other parts of Queens.

The event has been launched to celebrate St. Brigid's Day on February 1 and mark Ireland's newest public holiday, which takes place on the first Monday after St. Brigid's Day.

The St. Brigid's Day public holiday was launched in 2023 and, this year, will be observed on Monday, February 5.
