Joe Flannery, a long-time supporter of the New York Irish Center in Long Island City, has passed away. The Mayo native lived on Long Island.

A notice from the New York Irish Center said, “Our dear friend and colleague Joe Flannery from County Mayo passed away suddenly on Saturday.

“Joe will be dearly missed. He has been an integral part of the New York Irish Center since the very beginning. He was an active and much-loved member of our community and NYIC family. He ran the weekly 25-drive card game, collected the food from local restaurants for our weekly senior lunch, kept the center running behind the scenes, and attended and helped out at almost every event we hosted from concerts, movie nights, and computer club, to ceilis, and quizzes.

“You were sure to see Joe in the center on any given day or time over the past 14 years. Our thoughts and prayers are with Joe’s family at this difficult time.”

Flannery will be waked on Thursday, November 7, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Chapey Funeral Home, 20 Hicksville Road in Bethpage.

Mass will take place the following day at Maria Regina Roman Catholic Church, 3945 Jerusalem Avenue, Seaford.
