Irish Foreign Minister visits Boston

Irish Foreign Minister Charlie Flanagan made several stops in Boston while on a US visit last week.

At the Irish Consulate, Minister Flanagan presented a Certificate of Irish Heritage and paid tribute to Molly Sheehy, Dean of Middlesex Community College in Lowell, for her contributions to peace and reconciliation in Northern Ireland.

Friends of Irish Research Fall Mini-Conference

The Friends of Irish Research, Brockton, MA will be hosting a Fall Mini-Conference with the School of Irish Genealogy on Saturday, November 8th from 1:00 – 4:00 pm.

The organization, which is located in Brockton, MA, provides the resources and services of their research center and a place where those interested can come and discuss solutions in their genealogical search. Their staff has over 100 years experiences and they offer access to the most comprehensive resources currently available, including a growing library of over 5,000 digital books.

The Fall Mini-Conference will be held at 899 N. Main Street, Brockton and includes various sessions that include Introduction to Irish Genealogy, Using Ancestry Public Trees as Clues with Joseph Petrie and Searching for your Irish Family with Richard Reid.

6th annual Golden Bridges Awards in Boston

The two-day Golden Bridges conference will return to Boston this week as the Seaport Hotel plays host to this annual event.

This conference which is hosted by the Irish American publication 'Irish Echo' builds on previous Golden Bridges gatherings in Boston which have taken place each year since 2009.

The conference highlights community, business, education, arts and culture in northwest Ireland with their peers in Boston.

Featured speakers this year include Boston Mayor Marty Walsh, Sean Moynihan, President of Irish Network Boston, Mary Sugrue McAleer, Executive Director of Irish American Partnership and from Ireland, Minister Joe McHugh, Dept. of Arts, Heritage and Gaeltacht affairs and Alison Metcalfe, Tourism Ireland amongst many more.

The conference will open with an evening reception on 8 October and will resume the following day for a series of seminars at the Seaport Hotel. The highlight will include the Golden Bridges Gala Luncheon on October 9 honoring those forging transatlantic links built between the Massachusetts and the North West of Ireland.
