Aer Lingus has been approved for participation in the TSA PreCheck programme by the US Transportation Security Administration, the airline announced today. Tuesday, September 24.
TSA PreCheck is an expedited security screening experience for US citizens and eligible customers* departing from airports within the US. It uses an intelligence-driven approach to allow low-risk 'trusted travelers' to advance through security checks more efficiently.
Aer Lingus said on Monday that the benefits for Aer Lingus customers using TSA PreCheck include faster access to airport gates and the absence of usual requirements to remove shoes, belts, and laptops that are in carry-on bags.
With average wait times of just ten minutes, TSA PreCheck makes the travel experience smoother and more efficient, the airline noted.
Aer Lingus Chief Customer Officer Susanne Carberry said on Tuesday: "We are delighted to be joining the TSA PreCheck programme, which will make the security screening process for customers flying from the US to Europe much quicker.
"As an airline that’s committed to offering seamless transatlantic connections, we continuously seek opportunities to enhance the travel experience for customers flying to Ireland and Europe with Aer Lingus."
US citizens and citizens of Global Entry countries are eligible to apply for the TSA PreCheck Programme. When a passenger applies to join the programme, they pay a fee for a five-year membership. Once approved, passengers are issued with a known traveller number (KTN) that they provide to Aer Lingus when checking in at the airport or online through the website. It will also soon be available to customers checking in using the Aer Lingus app.
Aer Lingus is one of over 90 airlines participating in the programme. For more see TSA PreCheck - Aer Lingus.
