Shane MacGowan has given his stamp of approval to NFL stars Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce's reworking of the Pogues' iconic Christmas track "Fairytale of New York."

"Tell them I am knocked out," MacGowan said on X, formerly Twitter, sharing a video of the Kelce brothers' "Fairytale of Philadelphia."

It was the Pogues frontman's first post on X in over a month.

Kansas City Chief tight-end Travis Kelce recorded "Fairytale of Philadelphia" with his brother and Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce for the Eagles' holiday album "A Philly Special Christmas Special."

In a behind-the-scenes look at the recording of "Fairytale of Philadelphia," Jason tells Travis: "It's like two people fighting, but they really love each other. It kind of works really well for our relationship."

While "Fairytale of Philadelphia" features some new lyrics, Travis, the noted boyfriend of popstar Taylor Swift, keeps the original Pogues lyrics: "They've got cars big as bars / They've got rivers of gold / But the wind goes right through you / It's no place for the old..."

However, the brothers unfortunately mispronounced 'Galway' in their version of the song, but if it won MacGowan's approval, who are we to argue?

"Fairytale of Philadelphia" has jumped to number 1 in the US iTunes charts and, more importantly, won approval from MacGowan, who has been hospitalized since the summer for an unspecified illness.

In a recent post on X, Clarke thanked fans who have sent good wishes to MacGowan and also paid tribute to Pogues members Terry Woods and Spider Stacy for visiting her husband in hospital.

"Love and prayers for everyone who is struggling right now," Clarke said in the post. "Hang in there!"
