While many of us still think of him as James Bond, Pierce Brosnan is taking on a new case, this time as a pensioner trying to solve a murder in a new Netflix movie.

The film is an adaptation of Richard Osman’s "Thursday Murder Club," which focuses on a group of older people in a retirement home who get dragged into a real murder case, and decide who better to solve it than themselves.

The Navan native plays Ron Ritchie, a retired union leader, but when chatting to Saga Magazine, he revealed that despite being in his 70s, he doesn’t’ see himself as an old man.

He shared: "I don’t see myself as an old man at all. But I suppose I would be considered an old man by some and I am getting older, that’s for sure. So 'The Thursday Murder Club' dealt with all of those intricacies of the heart that are so fragile to look at sometimes."

The film itself highlights a lot of the things people go through as they get older, and some of the more difficult aspects of that.

Brosnan added: "It will bring great comfort to people who are getting old. We don’t really look after the elders in our society, they get pushed to the side. It’s a story of dignity and hope."

"The Thursday Murder Club" was first published in 2020, and spawned a hugely successful murder mystery series that now includes four titles, with the fifth due out this September.

The film follows four irrepressible retirees — Elizabeth (Helen Mirren), Ron (Pierce Brosnan), Ibrahim (Ben Kingsley), and Joyce (Celia Imrie) — who spend their time solving cold case murders for fun. When an unexplained death occurs on their own doorstep, their casual sleuthing takes a thrilling turn as they find themselves with a real whodunit on their hands.

The movie is directed by Chris Columbus and also stars Naomi Ackie, Daniel Mays, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, Tom Ellis, Jonathan Pryce, David Tennant, Paul Freeman, Geoff Bell, Richard E Grant, and Ingrid Oliver.
