It’s the first day of Spring 2018 and the northern hemisphere is celebrating the countdown toward better weather and the time when we can put our winter clothes back in the closet. The Spring Equinox falls each year on March 20 and in 2018, it has far from brought the good weather with it.

The Spring Equinox 2018, also known as the first day of Spring in the northern hemisphere, take place annually on March 20, almost coinciding with the Saint Patrick’s Day celebrations in Ireland and in the US.  

What is the meaning and definition of the Spring Equinox/First day of Spring?

The Spring Equinox is the time when the sun passes the celestial equator—the imaginary line in the sky above the Earth’s equator—and days become longer. It is at this time that the Northern Hemisphere marks the first day of astronomical spring.  Meteorologists use the meteorological seasons, that are based on the annual temperature cycle and the state of the atmosphere, and they argue that the first day of summer is on March 1.

The first day of Spring: Weather

The weather for the Spring Equinox is far from Spring-like in both Ireland and the US. Snow is on the way to the East Coast and NYC once more, while more snow is also forecast for Ireland.
