Most of Ireland will be looking forward to the good weather over the next 12 weeks, with the prospect of 99s and cans in the sun too good to pass up.

However, some may also be planning a road trip to see the best parts of the country, under the best backdrop of sunny weather.

With this, here are some of the best road trips around the country.

The Ring of Kerry

Of course, arguably the most iconic road in the country, the Ring of Kerry, boasts spectacular views and helps you get around the Kingdom with ease.

The route around the Iveragh Peninsula allows for incredibly scenic routes, spanning from Killarney to Dingle, and is perfect for stargazing thanks to its minimal light pollution.

Connemara to Galway

Spanning 120km out west and spanning villages such as Barna, Oughterard, and Clifden, the Connemara road trip isn’t just for kids heading to the Gaelteacht anymore (although you may pick up the cúpla focail while out there!)

With sights such as Aughnanure Castle, Brigit’s Garden, and many more, you can also take full advantage of the Connemara Loop — which spans from Galway City to Clifden and back through the coastal road, which offers breathtaking views.

On a clear day, you can see a pretty clear and stunning angle of the Cliffs of Moher and the Aran Islands.

Beara Peninsula

The quieter alternative to the Ring of Kerry, the Cork alternative is the Beara Peninsula — which boasts similar incredible views and sights.

The Glengarriff Nature Reserve is a hidden gem in this hidden gem of a route, also boasting the incredible Glengarriff Waterfall, while Garnish Island is also a highlight of the trip.

Slea Head Drive

The shortest of the routes distance-wise, Slea Head is no less breathtaking; starting from the Dingle Peninsula, people will cruise by the Atlantic and enjoy the scenic views on the clockwise drive.

Causeway Coastal Route

Heading up north and spanning from Derry to Belfast, the Causeway Coastal Route has both rugged beauty and is steeped in Irish history.

Hugging the seafront, the route contains hidden beaches and beautiful headlands. Some of the highlights of the route include the famous Giant’s Causeway and the Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge — suspended 30 metres above the sea.
