GAA: Fine Gael are to run the former GAA President Sean Kelly as a candidate in the European elections next year in the Munster South constituency, but they have to hope for better luck second time round. Kelly, a cousin of Enda Kenny's wife, last contested politics in the local elections in 1991when he failed to win a seat on Kerry County Council. His historic role in the axing of Rule 41 and the opening of Croke Park to soccer and rugby may well improve Kelly's election chances second time round. BOXING: Best of luck to American boxing trainer Floyd Mayweather Senior, who now handles the great British hope Ricky Hatton. Mayweather, father of world champion Floyd Junior, was in Hatton's ring for the first time on Saturday night when the Mancunian scored an 11th round stoppage of light-welterweight rival Paulie Malignaggi in Las Vegas. Hatton wants another crack at Mayweather Junior, but Daddy wants him to quit the booze, the kebabs and the chips before they get back in the ring. I wish him well. SOCCER: Bray Wanderers have launched an innovative scheme to attract new season ticket holders next year - pizzas! The Wicklow club have teamed up with Four Star Pizza whereby season ticket holders can buy a 12 inch pizza and get another free on home match weekends. Seems like a good deal to me - even if I can't stand cheese. SOCCER: Cash strapped Drogheda United employed modern ways to admit to an age old problem this week when they were informed members of staff that their wages wouldn't be paid - by text message. The move hardly augurs well for the future prospects of last season's eircom League champions. GOLF: Prize plonker Nick Faldo was on BBC the other night championing his credentials as a Ryder Cup captain all over again in 2010. That's the same Faldo who turned Europe from champions into Ryder Cup chumps in Valhalla last September. The man has some cheek.
