The Patriots have agreed to terms on a contract with left tackle Matt Light.

Light was the team's starter from last season and impressed throughout the regular season. There was a chance that the 10 year veteran wouldn't return to the team that he had spent his whole career with.

After the Patriots drafted Nate Solder in the first round of the NFL draft, some thought that the 33 year old Light would be looking for a new home. With Sebastien Vollmer already entrenched as a starter the Patriots now have good depth at the offensive tackle position.

Light will not receive as much attention as Chad Ochocinco or Albert Haynesworth who recently arrived in New England but he could be the most important addition for the team.

A blindside protector is vital in any offense but especially in an offense that relies on the pass as much as the Patriots.
