Eddie Hyland (10-1, 3 KOs) will make his U.S. debut as a professional when he takes on Gustavo Bailey (2-3) at the Roseland Ballroom on December 4. The 27-year-old super featherweight from Dublin will fight on the undercard of Bob Duffy's "Holiday Hits" promotion in a contest scheduled for six rounds. "Eddie is over there now to so some work with Tracy (Patterson) and I'll be over on December 1," father and trainer Paddy Hyland told the Irish Voice Monday from Dublin. "The Pride of Tallaght," as Eddie is known, was last in action on September 6 at the City West Hotel in Dublin when he defeated Geoffrey Munika on points. Hyland is the current Irish super featherweight title holder, a belt he won when he beat Kevin O'Hara on April 19 at the National Stadium. Dailey (2-3) is a 32-year-old latecomer to the paid game who only made his debut as a professional on March 7. The Philadelphia native has fought five times this year and is just coming off a second round TKO defeat to Stephan Alexander on August 16. All statistics point to Hyland having too much skill and experience for his opponent, but Hyland senior is too long in the sport to take anything for granted. "It was Brian Burke who got the opponent for us. We left it to Tracy and Brian," continued Paddy. "Brian went to have a look at his guy for us and he said he was tough and strong and would be a good contest for Eddie. "According to Brian the kid will be there. On paper he doesn't look a lot but on paper the lad that Pauly fought, it looked like he should handle him, (referring to Lucien Gonzalez, then 7-3-1, who defeated Paul by UD in October) but he was top of the range." Hyland, who has three sons who box professionally (Eddie, 15-0 featherweight Patrick and 12-1 super bantamweight Paul), plans to give his boys plenty of experience on this side of the Atlantic. "We have a couple of dates on the go. Tom Moran (promoter) wants to bring them back in February to Philadelphia and then we might come back in March for a show in Boston," said Paddy. "I want to keep them boxing stateside because it is a much harder game out there and they are getting a better boxing education there. They (opponents) are a lot more schooled and polished over in the States, from my experience." Younger brother Patrick, who accompanied Eddie to the U.S. to help with final preparations, was meant to fight on the Holiday Hits card but an opponent could not be found for him on time. Paul is at home in Ireland preparing for a fight in the undercard on Darren Sutherland's pro debut at DCU on December 18. He is slated to fight Gavin Reid (5-2) in a six round contest. Tickets for the Roseland Ballroom fight are priced at $150 (golden ringside), $100 (ringside) and $50 (general admission), and are available at the Roseland Ballroom, or www.ringpromotions.com or 516-313-2304. Doors open at 6 p.m.; first bout at 6:30 p.m. In other news, James Moore's camp at the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles is progressing well according to Barney Moore of Celtic Gloves Promotions. Moore 16-1 (10 KOs) is fighting NABF junior middleweight champion Yuri Foreman 26-0 (8 KOs) on December 13 at the Boardwalk in Atlantic City in a Shobox-televised fight. The light middleweight's right hand has been standing up well to some tough sparring with the likes of Scottish middleweight Craig McKewan and more recently former IBF junior middleweight champion Roman Karmazin (36-3-1, 23 KOs.) "Roman is very strong and very technical. We only sparred a few rounds, but I learned a lot from him already," said the Wicklow native from the West Coast. "Watching him on television, you don't realize how savvy he is. He really knows his way around the ring, and I am glad to be working with him." Tickets can be purchased in the New York area at Bar 43, 43-06 43rd Street in Sunnyside, or phone 718-361-3090; the Fiddlers Pub, 52-75 65th Street in Maspeth, or by calling Barney Moore (no relation) at 917-559-8467.
