Jillian van Turnhout is an Independent Member of Seanad Éireann (upper house of Irish Parliament) and a child rights activist. She was appointed as a Senator by the Taoiseach in May 2011 in recognition for her work on children’s rights. In her free time she enjoys researching her family history and even went to visit Wisconsin this summer to follow in the steps of 3 generations of Hassett women. She loves watching comedies and murder mystery’s as long they are not too gory. Jillian is the former Chief Executive of the @childrightsirl. Currently, on a pro-bono basis, she is Chair of @EarlyChildhdIRL; Vice Chairperson of the @emireland; and a Board member of @Women4Election. She is also an active volunteer with @IrishGirlGuides and is very interested in EU affairs having served for 12 years on the @EU_EESC. She normally tweets at @JillianvT
