The name, which is probably more frequently heard in nursing homes than classrooms these days, had been considered a little old-fashioned, but it is following in the footsteps of previous ‘granny-ish’ names that are having a resurgence.
The name Treasa, pronounced trassa’, is often considered the Irish version of Teresa, but it is actually a standalone ancient Irish name that means "strength."

Meanwhile, according to baby name experts at The Bump, Treasa is believed to derive from the Irish word treise, which means "strength" or "power." Last year, the name didn’t rank at all on the CSO’s baby name list.
However, in 2021, it was given to three little girls who are now school-age, and we think that its arrival back into Irish schools will flick a switch in parents’ minds when they have baby names on the brain.
