Sean Penn will be awarded with a top gong for his work in the earth-quake ravaged Haiti and during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, in New Orleans.

The two-time Oscar winner will be presented with his Hollywood Humanitarian Award at the Hollywood Film Festival's ceremony on October 25.

Penn founded the J/P Haitian Relief Organization in January. The group aims to help provide medical aid and assistance in relocation.

Festival founder and executive director Carlos de Abreu said "It is an honour to recognise the inspiring humanitarian efforts that Sean Penn and his J/P Haitian Relief Organisation have been providing to the great people of Haiti."

In the past his philanthropic work has been recognized by the U.S. Army and by the Ambassador of the Republic of Haiti. This July he was knighted by the Haitian President, Rene Preval, in a ceremony in Port-Au-Prince.
