A piece of luggage prompted a major security alert at Dublin Airport yesterday afternoon.
Terminal 2 was evacuated for two hours after a bag was identified as suspicious, but it was a false alarm.
The bag was understood to belong to a businessman travelling from London Heathrow to JFK airport in New York via Dublin.
Thousands of passengers were asked to leave the terminal around midday and directed to designated assembly points outside.
Gardaí and airport police closed off the road to T2 as large crowds streamed out of the building.
The army Explosive Ordnance Disposal team were called to the airport and dealt with the piece of baggage.
Earlier reports had stated that a man had been arrested during the incident, after suspected detonators were identified in his bag.
But it was later confirmed that while a passenger had been engaged by gardaí, no arrest has been made.

‘Following a preliminary examination on scene, the piece of luggage was contained and deemed safe for removal from T2 to an alternate location which would not impact on airport operations.
‘The piece of luggage was subject to further examination by the Army EOD team and has been declared safe. An Garda Síochána is continuing our enquiries at this time.’
Other airports around Europe, including Heathrow, were subjected to cyber attacks yesterday, causing chaos for tens of thousands of passengers.
