A job opportunity has come up at the Great Blasket Island for two people to make the move to the Southern island for the summer.

The remote island is situated off the coast of Dunquin in Co Kerry, near Dingle.

The Great Blasket Island Experience are currently hiring for the next duo to run the coffee shop and overnight accommodation for the 2026 season.

Along with managing the coffee shop, there are three holiday cottages to be managed on the stunning island. The job runs from April to October, with those interested urged to apply fast.

The role involves meeting and greeting overnight guests, cleaning and painting the three holiday cottages as well as serving tea, coffee and snacks to day visitors via the coffee shop.

The job details say they are looking for a "hardworking, responsible and trustworthy duo that have great people skills and initiative."

They note that the job is not a ‘holiday job’ and can get "VERY busy."

"This is an intense position and caretakers must acknowledge that they are on an island with very little resources."

As well as running the coffee shop, checks and a full clean of the houses need to be done following the departure of guests. The potential caretakers will also be required to clean the coffee shop, check stock and set up for the next day.

Accommodation is provided, which is situated above the coffee shop. The coffee shop kitchen will be used as your own, however, a private bathroom and sitting area is in the cottage along with a main bedroom.

Laundry will be collected and washed on the mainland, while food shops will be delivered daily.

A wage is also provided, which will be discussed on a candidate-to-candidate basis.

A second bedroom is also in the cottage, which may be used for voluntary helpers brought in during the busier months of June, July and August.

While the season begins from April 1, the candidates hired will likely be brought out the last week of March to settle in.

Days off, they say, are weather-dependent, with a week of bad weather leading to no sailings to the island, however four weeks of sunshine is also potential.

"This is where the role can be very intense," the website outlines, "During the busier months of June, July and August we will get 'helpexers' in on a voluntary work basis in exchange for bed and board.

"Our main priority are the guests and the coffee shop. If there is a long period of bad weather/ days off we encourage any general DIY or maintenance."
