Caitriona Logan, a 36-year-old doctor from Mullingar, Co Westmeatth with two very young children, was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer in October and is currently undergoing radiotherapy in Dublin.

However, Caitriona's treatment options are limited in Ireland and her family is currently exploring alternative treatments to give Caitriona the maximum amount of time with her family and friends and to give her the best possible chance of overcoming her diagnosis.

In a post on the "Caitriona Logan Brain Tumour Treatment Fundraiser" GoFundMe page, Caitriona's family said she has been diagnosed with a Grade 4, non-resectable Astrocytoma, which has a typical prognosis of 12-18 months.

Her family said they are placing their hopes in oncovirus therapies currently being trialed in the United States and Canada, adding that they are speaking to specialists in the US about possible treatment options.

The family is now looking for donations to help Caitriona avail of new treatment options currently being trialed in North America.

"If you are in the position to donate we would hugely appreciate it, even a share would be amazingly helpful. We'll be doing fundraising events over the next while so please get involved if you can and share with your friends and family," Caitriona's family said in a post on GoFundMe.

"We understand that this is a challenging time for many, and any form of donations or sharing our campaign on your network would be immensely appreciated."

The family added that any funds not used by Caitriona will be donated to the Irish Cancer Society.

Caitriona is married to her "adoring" husband Leo and has two very young children - Kitty, aged three, and Barra, aged one.

The GoFundMe has already raised €204,000 of its €250,000 target. Click here to donate or to find out more.
