Great news for anyone with connections to The Rebel County – Cork Airport is set to announce flights to Boston with Norwegian Air next year for as low as $350 return.

The route will likely operate two to three times each week.

If the Cork to Boston route is successful, a Cork to New York route may be launched in 2017, the Cork Evening Echo reports.

As the paper reported, talks between Cork Airport, which has long sought a Transatlantic carrier, and Norwegian Air, which has been rapidly growing and expanding its operations, progressed last week during the World Route Development Forum in South Africa.

Also under discussion are routes to Spain and the Far East.

“We have ambitious plans for expansion in the UK and Ireland and continue to look at new routes, including to America, but there are no specific destinations to confirm at this stage,” an airline spokesperson told the Evening Echo, as the details are not yet officially confirmed.

Cork Airport had seen a decline in passengers in recent years, but seems to be up for a comeback between the interest from Norwegian and City Jet’s addition of a new route to London City Airport a few weeks ago.
