The parade, which will be hosted on Sunday, March 17 at 11 am, is celebrating this year with a theme of “Shamrocks & Shenanigans.”

Stonestreet, who plays Eric on ABC’s ‘Modern Family,’ revealed that he had been named the 2019 St. Patrick’s Day Grand Marshal in a video announcement on Fox 4 News Kansas City.

In the video, Stonestreet shared that he has previously participated in the Kansas City St. Patrick’s Day Parade in 1989 as none other than ‘Fizbo the Clown.’

Derek Campbell, co-chair of the parade, said that Stonestreet “embodies a lot of what we look for in a Grand Marshal.”

“That’s shown through the impact he’s had on the community, especially through the Big Slick Celebrity Weekend,” a charity event supporting Kansas City’s Children’s Mercy Hospital that Stonestreet regularly supports.

Joining Stonestreet on the parade route as an honored guest is Mary Mitchell O’Connor, Ireland’s Minister of State for Higher Education.
