Eric Roth, who co-wrote Martin Scorcese's epic Western crime drama "Killers of the Flower Moon", is currently working on a limited series based on the life of President John F. Kennedy, according to reports.

Netflix is developing the limited series, which is based on Fredrik Logevall's critically acclaimed book "JFK: Coming Of Age In The American Century, 1917-1956".

The book was published in 2020 and is the first part of a planned two-volume biography exploring Kennedy's life from his birth up to his time as a Massachusetts senator.

Roth is attached as writer and executive producer, while Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping of Chernin Entertainment are also on board as executive producers.

Roth won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay in 1995 for his work on "Forrest Gump" and has since been nominated for six more Academy Awards.

He co-wrote "Killers of the Flower Moon" alongside veteran director Martin Scorcese.

Variety reports that Netflix views the upcoming series as an American alternative to "The Crown", a hugely successful Netflix series about the British Royal Family.

Meanwhile, Deadline reports that Oscar-winning director Barry Levinson is set to direct "Assassination", a crime drama exploring how Chicago crime boss Sam Giancana arranged Kennedy's assassination as payback for Kennedy's attempts to bring down organized crime.

Levinson won the Academy Award for Best Director for "Rain Man" (1989) and has received six Oscar nominations across a glittering career.

Shia LaBeouf and Al Pacino are set to star in the film, according to Deadline, with Al Pacino slated to play mob boss Tony Accardo.

Two-time Oscar nominee David nominee is on board as writer, while Corey Large, Jason Sosnoff, and Nicholas Celozzi are on board as producers.

Production company 308 Enterprises is financing the film.
