The Bray native brought tears to people's eyes as she fought her final fight against Flora Pili in Dublin.
Those who didn't get a chance to get their hands on a golden ticket were relieved when it was announced that the highly anticipated match was going to air on TV.
The fight, which saw Katie become a three-time undisputed Champion of the World, was broadcast free-to-air on RTÉ on Saturday.
Fans were also treated to all the entertainment that featured on the night, including several other fights and performances from Róisín O, Aoife Scott, and Westlife.
However, it was when Katie made her appearance and stepped into the ring that figures soared.
By round 10, 1.6 million people tuned in to watch Katie defeat France's Flora Pili in front of 83,000 fans.
As for streaming, it was found that over half a million, 552,000 to be exact, logged on to the RTÉ Player to watch the fight.
Katie Taylor played had her last fight at Croke Park.
On average, the program had 973,000 viewers, which equated to a 74 percent share of the viewing audience, which is very impressive!
The fight knocked the All-Ireland final, World Cup, and European Athletics and Swimming coverage out of the water when it came to those watching at home.
RTÉ Director of Video Steve Carson said: "On a historic Saturday night, Irish audiences came together in huge numbers to celebrate the extraordinary career of an Irish sporting icon.
"Katie Taylor's final victory was a national moment that will be remembered for many years to come.
"RTÉ Sport felt it was important to be able to bring live coverage from Croke Park to viewers and listeners, free-to-air, right across the country."
