Irish contender Lines of Battle trained by maestro Aidan O’Brien will be the only foreign challenger in the Kentucky Derby on Saturday.

The horse will be ridden by English jockey Ryan Moore who rode him to victory in the UAE Derby in Dubai.

The horse’s odds in Europe are much shorter than in the U.S. He is 14/1 with Paddy Power and  30/1 in America.

This will be the fifth time that O’Brien has had a runner in the “Run for the Roses” and his best placing so far is fifth.

“He worked this morning and went well,”  O’Brien told The Irish Times yesterday. “The surface will be an unknown but he’ll be able to have a canter on it.” The Kentucky Derby is run on dirt, whereas European horses run on turf.
