Denis Walsh will succeed Gerald McCarthy as Cork hurling boss.

McCarthy announced his resignation earlier this month, bringing an end to an acrimonious stand-off between the 2008 panel and the county board over his reappointment as manager.

Former players Denis Coughlan, Jimmy Barry Murphy and John Fenton were subsequently charged with the responsibility of finding a successor, and they have decided upon former St. Catherine’s club man Walsh.

A former Cork dual football and hurling star, Walsh has previous inter-county management experience with the Waterford senior football team.

A press conference has been called for the Rochestown Park Hotel in Cork on Monday, March 30, at which time Walsh will be officially presented to the media.
