The Northern Irish PGA Champion Rory McIlroy and the world’s most famous golfer Tiger Woods are set to duel during a one-day exhibition at Lake Jinsha International Golf Club in Beijing,China.

Speaking to the Golf Channel McIlroy said “It should be a lot of fun.” He added it’s the “first time I've really ever done something like this with Tiger."

The champion golfers are set to play an 18-hole match on Monday, 29th October,  after both players have competed in different Asian tournaments.

Woods’ agent, Mark Steinberg, from Excel Sports Management, told the Associated Press, the game has been planned for a number of months. He described the match as customer entertainment.

McIlroy and Woods are the only two players to play multiple majors by more than eight shots in the last 35 years.

Steinberg said “I'm sure this gives it a little more pop. Rory has moved to No. 1 in the world, and clearly they are the two most recognizable names in golf.”

Before the “Duel at Lake Jinsha” Woods will be playing the CIMB Asia Pacific Classic, in Malaysia  while McIlroy will be competing at the Volvo Masters, in Shanghai (both running from 25th to 28th October).

This type of 18-hole exhibition match is nothing new for Woods. In 1999, on network TV he played David Duval, when they were both battling for the position of world number one.

McIlroy and Woods played together in Abu Dhabi at the start of the year. They will also play in the same group at the Barclays next week, when the FedEx Cup playoffs begin.

Unless they are paired in the Ryder Cup’s singles the "Duel at Lake Jinsha" will be the champions first battle.
