Irish international captain Robbie Keane got off the mark for Celtic Sunday when he scored a penalty in the second half to help his team into the next round of the Scottish Cup.

Celtic boss Tony Mowbray rested Keane and his fellow Irish international Aiden McGeady with an eye on the vital league game against Hearts on Wednesday, but when the teams went in level 2-2 at the break, he decided to bring on his marquee signing.

Keane's introduction coincided with Celtic taking over the game. A Callum Woods og gave the Hoops the lead after 59 minutes, and in the 67th minute the referee judged that Dunfermline captain Austin McCann fouled Keane inside the box and pointed to the spot.

Keane dusted himself off and duly tucked home the penalty, ending the game as a contest and opening his account for the Bhoys.

He will hope to repeat the feat when he makes his home debut in a crucial league match with Hearts on Wednesday.
