With gratitude and with sadness, the IIIC says goodbye to our much loved managing attorney, Abby Colbert. Abby is leaving us to re-locate to the Berkshires, with her husband, David, who has been appointed to a teaching position at the prestigious Williams College. Sadly we couldn’t persuade her to commute!

Abby has served the Irish emigrant community here in Boston for the past seven years. If you have ever come in contact with Abby, you will surely understand how much she will be missed.
Abby was the IIIC’s first staff attorney. Before her arrival in December 2005, the IIIC (in those days the Irish Immigration Center) relied exclusively on volunteer pro bono attorneys who still form a vital part of our legal services team.
Today, under Abby’s energetic leadership, our legal services team now includes two staff attorneys, a BIA accredited immigration specialist, administration staff, interns, volunteers, and 15 pro bono attorneys who provide support to over 1,400 clients a year in four languages: English, Spanish, French and Kreyol. Abby is a power-house of an attorney and much loved for her knowledge and compassion.
We are deeply appreciative of everything Abby has done for our clients and wish Abby, David, and their beautiful daughter, Miren, every success and happiness as they embark on the next chapter of their lives. As we say as gaeilge “Go n-éirí an bóthar libh agus go mbuailimid le chéile arís, go gcoinní Dia i mbos A láimhe thú” May the road rise with you, and until we meet each other again, may God keep you in the palm of His hand.
Stay tuned for more news on Jeannie Kain who has been appointed our new managing attorney.
