The Richard Family
The local Irish Dancing community in Boston came out in force last Saturday April 27 to support Jane Richard, the seven-year-old from Dorchester who lost a leg in the Boston marathon bombings. The April 12th terrorist attack also claimed the life of her eight-year-old brother Martin and seriously injured her mother Denise.

When the news spread among the local Irish dancing community about Jane, plans for a fundraiser began. The dance took place in the Hancock Hall, 200 Berkeley Street, with all 1,080 seats sold out. There were 22 routines performed by 4 dance schools, 6 college groups and 3 musical groups. Some group performances also included a routine by the teachers of the dance schools as well as the New England World Medal Holders.

The night was a huge success with over $40,000 raised for the cause through a combination of ticket sales and a 50/50 raffle. The winner of the raffle generously donated her winnings back to the Richard Family Fund. As of print, the fund on the site now stands at over $41,000.

“Joe and I want to thank everyone who was involved and who attended, it was a fantastic show of support from the Irish dance community” according to one of the event organizers, Catherine Ternes. “We hope that Jane realizes we will always be there for her and her family.”
