On Friday, July 20th from 7pm to midnight there will be a fundraiser put on by the Irish Community to benefit the Irish Pastoral Centre. The event will take place at Florian Hall and there will be a ‘Disco of the ages’ theme to put a unique spin on the traditional fundraiser event. DJs will play favorite hits from the 70s at 7:00 pm, the 80s at 8:00 pm, the 90s at 9:00 pm, the 2000s at 10:00 pm and today’s hits until midnight. This fun and diverse event is sure to draw all kinds of crowds from the young to the old who want to help the Irish Pastoral Centre and have a great time dancing the night away.
In addition to the wide variety of music, there will be a silent auction and raffles with the second and third prizes including a flat screen TV and an electric scooter. The grand prize for the night will be a cruise for two to the Bahamas. Supporting the Irish Pastoral Centre has never been so easy or fun.

When speaking with Jack Meehan, Past Natural President of the Ancient Order of the Hibernians and long time Irish Pastoral Centre member, he had nothing but good things to say about this organization. “The Irish Pastoral Centre has done marvelous work for all facets from senior citizens to J1 students. They have never hesitated to help the finest community of people on Earth (the Irish community of Greater Boston). I hope that people come to this event in large numbers to show their appreciation for a very worthy cause.”

According to their website, The Irish Pastoral Centre “strives to assist Irish immigrants in varying capacities and facilitate their positive transition to life in America. Since 1987, we have been committed to serving the most vulnerable in our community in as culturally sensitive a manner as possible.”

The Irish Pastoral Centre is open Monday thru Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm and holds a wide variety of programs including immigration and citizenship counseling, drug and alcohol counseling, domestic abuse counseling, spiritual programs and pastoral care, family outreach programs, J1 summer student help, mother and toddler groups and senior citizen outreach programs.

The Irish Pastoral Centre is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization, and is funded in part by the Irish government in addition to donations from the Irish/Irish American community. Jack Meehan says that it is possible that “the Centre may not be eligible for certain funding this year due to the terrible economic situation in Ireland” so it is important now more than ever for members of the community to do their part to keep the Irish Pastoral Centre around.

For the many people whose lives have been touched by the Irish Pastoral Centre, they would love to see you supporting them at this fundraiser. There is a suggested donation of $20 to help cover the cost of the event. So come on down to Florian Hall to dance to some great music, win a fun prize and most importantly, support the Irish Pastoral Centre.
