Met Éireann has declared that winter is on its way, as the country is set to cool down from the middle of next week.

The country was battered by wind and rain on Friday in a return to our regularly scheduled programming from earlier this week, bringing forward the autumnal/winter weather we’re expecting as the days get shorter.

While things are looking somewhat pleasant this weekend, Met Éireann has warned that from midweek things are set to get cooler, as temperatures aren’t expected to go beyond the mid-teens.

Looking to the weather for Saturday (October 3), Met Éireann has said that it will be a pleasant day ahead with autumn sunshine and mostly light breezes. A few isolated showers will be expected across the northwest, while some mist and fog patches will kick off Saturday. Highest temperatures of 14C to 17C.

It will be mostly dry and clear on Saturday night, but increasing cloud will bring patchy drizzle along counties on the Atlantic. Some mist and fog will develop in places too, especially across the South Midlands. Lowest temperatures of 5C to 11C.

Sunday will be misty or foggy in some places, and will be mostly cloudy with patchy drizzle across the west and northwest. Dry elsewhere with some sunny spells across the east and southeast, but it will remain mild and humid; highest temperatures of 16C to 19C.

It will be damp in places on Sunday night, with patchy outbreaks of drizzle; misty in places too. Relatively mild, however, as temperatures won’t fall below 11C to 13C.

Monday will be overcast and locally misty, while patchy rain and drizzle will develop across the country. Thankfully, those amounts of rain and drizzle will be small, while some sunny spells develop too, the best of these across the midlands and east. A band of more persistent rain will move into the north and northwest later. Highest temperatures of 15C to 19C.

Tuesday will kick off damp or wet, as rain overnight continues to sink southwards. Clearing from the northwest with sunshine and mostly dry weather following the afternoon and evening. One or two showers will affect the northwest, while temperatures won’t go beyond 13C to 16C.

Things are set to cool from Wednesday onwards, as Met Éireann forecasts a mix of cloud and sunny spells and scattered passing showers that mainly affect the northern half of the country. Things will cool down, too, as highest temperatures won’t exceed 11C to 15C.
