Jo Jo disappeared in November 1995, with a dig for her possible remains picked up again this week.

The woman’s loved ones have thanked the public for their support and pleaded for anyone with information to come forward.

The search has been renewed in Wicklow, as officers also look for missing Kildare woman Deirdre Jacob.

It has been alleged that convicted rapist Larry Murphy may have buried one of them in a car under the ground.

According to the Daily Mail, a credible tip-off was made to Gardaí and a digger was brought to excavate the area.

The axle of a car was dug up yesterday from land being excavated by gardaí as part of the murder investigations.

The dig, which has been ongoing since Monday, temporarily stopped yesterday as a garda dug up what appeared to be the axle of a car with a shovel.

The officer raised his hand as the axle and another item, which also appeared to be a part of a car, were removed from the soil.

This weekend, Jo Jo’s family took to social media to share their first statement since the news of a new dig was revealed.

They wrote: "With the ongoing search for Jo Jo and Deirdre this last week, we would like to express our heartfelt thanks for all your wonderful support.

"Thank you for your kind words, prayers and keeping a candle lighting for Jo Jo and Deirdre.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the team’s carrying out this search and it is reassuring to hear the Garda Commissioner say in a recent Media Report, that there is no rush on this search and they have got everything they need to do the work there.

"We are appealing to those people who have information, no matter how small, to please please come forward."

Jo Jo’s niece also took to social media to share her hopes of being able to finally bury her aunt.

Imelda Kennedy wrote: "Please God we can finally get closure and bring Auntie Jo home and lay her to rest."

Jo Jo was last seen in a phone box in Moone, Co Kildare, on November 9, 1995. She had spent the evening at Bruxelles Bar on Harry Street in Dublin.
