Last year’s inaugural participation by the Aisling Irish Community Center in the Yonkers Marathon was an overwhelming success with more than 200 runners taking part, and the 2019 event promises to be even bigger
Team Aisling will officially launch at an event at J.P. Clarke’s, 947 McLean Avenue, this Friday, June 21, at 7 p.m.
According to a press release from the Aisling Center, everyone is welcome to attend and for members already registered, it is important to come by and pick up the first of three official team gear tops that will be revealed on the night.
Team Aisling was founded last year by the Aisling Center to connect the New York community with four goals – fun, fitness, friendship, and fundraising. A hard-working committee of team captains has already managed to encourage over 260 people to register this year and will exceed all expectations by Yonkers Marathon race day on October 20.
Anyone can join Team Aisling over the next four months. Registration fee is $100 and runners get three team t-shirts in return.
The next step is to register for Yonkers Marathon race day where participants can walk, jog or run in either a 5k, half or full marathon. Celebrations follow later that day a Rory Dolan’s where Team Aisling hosts an after party to celebrate the achievements of their team. It’s all about bringing people together and having fun and getting fit in the process.
Team Aisling will introduce their 10 sponsors on Friday. They are Rory Dolan’s, United Structural Works, Country Bank, Willowfield, Connolly’s, The Tara Circle, Donnelly Irish Meats, All Boro Floor Service, J.T. Magen, and the James Trading Group.
Friday night’s speakers are Irish Deputy Consul General Eimear Friel, a retired businessman, past president of the New York Athletic Club and avid marathoner John Neary, and retired businessman and marathoner John Murphy from Woodlawn.
