IRISH immigrants who have returned to Ireland are organizing a reunion in Athlone, Co. Westmeath on Saturday, July 19.The event, which was originally conceived by Helen Greene and Shelia Denning, both immigrants themselves, is an opportunity for people who once lived in the U.S. but have returned to Ireland for one reason or another to catch up in a fun way.According to organizer of the event and recent returnee to Co. Tipperary, Tom Woodlock, there are approximately 200 people attending the reunion, but he is hoping that more will go when they find out about it."It's important for everyone who wants to attend the event to call Shelia or I so we can give the hotel the numbers," said Woodlock. The organizers are hoping, if the reunion is a success, which Woodlock believes it will be, to make it an annual affair."The plan is to hold it in a different town in Ireland every year," said Woodlock.Woodlock asks Irish Voice readers to inform their friends or family that have recently returned home to Ireland about the reunion."A lot of returnees may not know about the event so please tell them and give them our numbers so they can contact us," he said.Woodlock, who returned to Ireland in February after living in New York for seven years, is looking forward to the event and seeing old friends."We all live in different parts of the country and it's not often we all get to meet up, so by organizing this reunion it gives everyone a chance to catch up with old friends, faces and even make some new ones," he said. "It will be just nice to share old stories of America and the good times we all had there with each other."The reunion will take place at the Shamrock Hotel in Athlone on Saturday, July 19 at 7 p.m. There will be a buffet from 7-9 p.m. followed by music and dancing. The cost of entry is *18 a head. Call Denning at 011-353-87-7903022 or Woodlock at 011-353-87-0545644 for more information.
