Conor McGregor’s idea of constructing a giant Jesus statue on the Cliffs of Moher has gotten backing from an unlikely source.

The former Presidential candidate and UFC fighter raised eyebrows earlier this week when he spoke about major plans for a giant Jesus statue in Armenia, proposing that Ireland build the biggest one in the world, on the Cliffs of Moher.

Sharing an AI-generated photo of a potential Jesus statue on the cliffs, which had fans of the fighter calling his bluff on constructing a giant statue or telling him where to go with such an idea.

However, McGregor’s proposed statue has found a left-field backer in animal rights group PETA — yes, seriously — on one condition: that should the project go ahead, they want to add a plaque reading: "Jesus Preached Compassion. Honour Him. Be Vegan."

A letter written by PETA founder Ingrid Newkirk was sent to the directors of the Cliffs of Moher Experience, claiming that a hypothetical plaque on a hypothetical statue would encourage viewers "to leave animals in peace and to practice the Golden Rule at the heart of Christ’s teachings: 'So in everything, do unto others what you would have them do unto you.'"

"This simple principle lies at the core of both morality and faith – and choosing to live vegan helps us put it into practice," the letter, which was released by PETA on Friday, read.

"The realities of modern food systems starkly contradict the values of kindness and decency. Animals raised for food often endure profound suffering: lambs are separated from their mothers and subjected to painful procedures before slaughter; chickens are confined with no room to stretch a wing and undergo harsh processing; and fish are hunted in their homes and dragged to their deaths, gasping for breath.

"Should a statue of Jesus come to pass, please consider adding our plaque to remind visitors of his core lesson – kindness to all."

McGregor shared a seemingly AI-generated photo of a hypothetical Jesus statue on the Cliffs of Moher to his Instagram, captioning the photo: "Have a dream to construct the largest statue of Jesus Christ in Ireland! A massive monument to our nation’s faith."

"Armenia is currently constructing the world’s largest, and it looks magnificent! Bravo, Armenia!" McGregor continued. "LET’S GO IRELAND! Today is the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord!

"11th of the 1st, 2026. Where we celebrate Jesus’ baptism! May the Holy Spirit renew you and remind you, you are loved!"

McGregor shared that he became a born-again Christian following a hallucinogenic trip in Mexico, and married his partner Dee Devlin at the Holy Church of Santa Stefano degli Abissini in the Vatican last month, and recently spoke about his deep urgency to marry Dee on the first month anniversary of their wedding.
