The Kilkenny St. Patrick’s Day Parade's 2019 theme is "Bring back the bees" and one of the world's most inspiring women Vicky Phelan named as Grand Marshal.

Come along with all of the family to the Kilkenny St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Line the streets to show your support of local groups, be entertained by their costumes and performances as they parade the streets of the city. Enjoy food stalls, street performers and a gorgeous Vintage Fairground as well.

We would like to extend a “Céad Míle Failte” to everyone visiting Kilkenny and Ireland for St. Patrick’s Day.  It is our pleasure to welcome you to a city that is rich in culture, heritage, and the arts and we look forward to showing you the fantastic hospitality and welcome that Kilkenny and Ireland are renowned for.

At the heart of the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in Kilkenny is the annual parade, a community event involving community groups and organizations as well as clubs, schools and businesses from all over the county, and we thank them for their participation in the Parade every year.

For the 2019 parade, we have chosen the theme “Bring back the bees”. As everyone knows, bees are so important and need to be protected -  if we look at the food in our fridge or on our table, bees have played their part either pollinating the many vegetables and fruits we eat directly or pollinating the food for the animals that we then consume. This year for Lá le Padraig we want to celebrate the bee and the County Council have very aptly chosen the black and amber bumblebee as the County emblem, showing our commitment to the bees.

South Kilkenny native and recently honored Kilkenny Person of the Year, Vicky Phelan has been selected as this year's Grand Marshal of the city's annual St. Patrick's Day Parade. Ms. Phelan has shot to national prominence as a result of her campaign for the recognition of the mishandling of the cases of hundreds of Irish women whose cervical cancer was misdiagnosed and in fighting for proper treatment for those suffering as a result. She has received numerous awards, including an honorary doctorate from the University of Limerick and was recently named by BBC as one of the 100 most inspiring women in the world.
