Half-way to St. Patrick's Day Celebration Weekend at the Irish Social Club

The Irish Social Club in West Roxbury are hosting a jam-packed weekend of music and dancing to mark the half-way point to St. Patrick's day.

On Friday, September 12, guests can enjoy an evening of dancing to one of Ireland's top singers, Andy Cooney, who will be joined on stage with his band. Not only will this be a night of high-entertainment but all those in attendance will be eligible to enter a free drawing for cruise of Irish stars which takes place in 2015.

On Saturday, September 13, award winning band The Druids, will bring their distinctive sound to the Irish Social Club. The band who have played all over the world are known for their ability to captivate any audience through their powerful renditions of some of Ireland's most loved and emotive Irish music.

First Annual Angry Scotsman Kilt Crawl in Jamaica Plain

In honor of the 700th anniversary of the Battle of Bannockburn, on Saturday, September 13th, 2014, from 1-5 p.m., 2 to 3 dozen hearty souls will exhibit true feats of strength and endurance by engaging in the First Annual Angry Scotsman Kilt Crawl: “J.P. or Bust."

Members of several local Scottish and Celtic charities, along with members of the British Consulate, will have fun while raising awareness and donations for the mission of two fine organizations; The Scots Charitable Society and The Charitable Irish Society. Participants, wearing kilts or tartan, and led by a bagpiper and drummer, will walk along a 1.7 mile route through Jamaica Plain.

The crawl will begin at Eugene O'Neill's, then proceed to The James's Gate and Costello’s, before finishing at The Haven. Raffles, prizes, music, singing, and conviviality are expected along the route. The event is sponsored by Belhaven Scottish Ale, Dunnottar Castle, The Haven, Laphroaig Distillery, Sam Adams Brewery, Traquair House Brewery, and Walker’s Shortbread.

Founded in 1657, The Scots’ Charitable Society is the oldest charitable organization still existing in the Western Hemisphere. The Society awards undergraduate scholarships to the Scottish-American community and provides relief to individuals and Scots’ families in need.

The Charitable Irish Society, started in 1737 in Boston by Irish immigrants who had successfully made that city their home, was formed to assist other newly arrived Irish immigrants in settling in and assimilating into a new city and new country. It is the oldest Irish society in both Americas and has had a rich history for over two and a half centuries.
