A member of the Northern Ireland police force PSNI has been seriously injured after a bomb exploded under his car in County Antrim this morning. The bomb is believed to be the work of IRA dissidents.

Police say the blast occurred off the Ballymena Road in Antrim at around 6.30 a.m.

British Army bomb experts were immediately called to the scene.

There was immediate condemnation of the  attack.

The North's Security Minister Paul Goggins said the 'vile attack' would sicken people across Northern Ireland."

He praised the work of  the PSNI , and said that work was in stark contrast to those who tried to murder the policeman.

'Those who planted this device are to be condemned and anyone with information should bring it to the PSNI so that those responsible can be brought before the courts', he said.
