A UFO that was spotted over Irish skies caused all sorts of theories on social media.

The mysterious bright light saw people baffled across the country on Wednesday evening at around 6 pm, with people sharing videos and photos of it on social media.

A number of videos showed the bright light moving quickly across the sky from various altitudes, including one person on a training flight near Cork Airport — with Alan O’Reilly from Carlow Weather saying that he was inundated with messages on his social media.

Multiple reports of strange light moving in sky over Ireland in last 15 minutes with some describing as a like a big object with light in front but no noise and moving very quickly. Reports from Southeast, Midlands and West. Moving West to East. Anyone else spot it pic.twitter.com/ej0qag9Aje

"So I don’t know what that light in the sky was, that I shared, but my notifications have never lit up like they have just now," Alan said on his Twitter (X).

"[There were] reports right from the south, right through the midlands, up to the west, east — pretty much spotted all over Ireland.

"Loads of people captured videos and pictures of it: a bright light, no sound, moving at or below cloud level," he continued, adding that it wasn’t being shown on FlightRadar — which allows people to track flights — before saying that it is, by definition, a UFO: unidentified flying object (not necessarily aliens).

"If it is the aliens, I say hello, I hope ye like weather," Alan joked.

A few hours later, however, the flying object was eventually identified as the SpaceX Falcon 9, which may have been dumping fuel in orbit over the country.

That bright moving light over Ireland tonight 🇮🇪✨ wasn’t a UFO — it was a SpaceX Falcon 9 launching 28 Starlink satellites from California 🚀

The Starlink launch vehicle launched from Florida earlier on Wednesday (October 29), with people eventually confirming that it was indeed the launch vehicle.

"That bright moving light over Ireland tonight wasn’t a UFO — it was a SpaceX Falcon 9 launching 28 Starlink satellites from California," it was confirmed online.
