The Aisling Irish Community Center was instrumental in launching the appeal for information about Hughes with its "missing person" post on social media on Friday, January 19.

The Aisling Irish Community Center said that 35-year-old Irish man Hughes hadn't "been in contact with his family in Ireland or online since before Christmas" and that he was living in Manhattan.

The Center said that police had been contacted about the disappearance of Hughes.

"Please comment on this post if you have any information and share this with anyone who might know more," the Aisling Irish Community Center said in its social media post on Friday, rallying the Irish community in New York and further afield.

"Family has no contacts in New York so any help is appreciated."

Among the many comments on the post was Andrew's mother Geraldine who wrote: "This is my son Andrew not heard from him and not seen any Social Media activity since late Nov or early Dec...he has been staying round the Manhatten area.."
