Hollywood kingpin Roma Downey's company has optioned the TV rights to Debbie Macomber's series of novels Angels Everywhere

LightWorkers Media, owned by Derry-born star Roma Downey, has optioned the television rights to Debbie Macomber inspirational novel series, Angels Everywhere.

It seems rather fitting that after the successes of her recently produced The Bible and Son of God, Downey should return to the realm of angels. Downey's breakthrough role was in the CBS drama, Touched by an Angel, which ran from 1994 to 2003.

“I loved playing Monica for so many years on the CBS hit series ‘Touched by An Angel’ and it is no secret I love angels,” said Downey. “When Debbie Macomber agreed to allow myself and LightWorkers to option her angel book series I was thrilled. I feel like I have come home in these stories. Debbie’s fans are going to love seeing her beloved characters Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy come to life on screen and ‘Touched by an Angel’ fans will love having a brand new angel series to be inspired by. There is a huge audience of many millions of people waiting for these beautiful stories and we can’t wait to get going!”

Macomber has more than 200 million copies of her books in print worldwide. In her novels, Macomber brings to life compelling relationships that embrace family and enduring friendships, uplifting her readers with stories of connection and hope. Macomber’s novels have spent over 1,000 weeks on the #1 New York Times bestseller list with thirteen of her novels hitting the number one spot.

“I am beyond excited to work with Roma Downey to bring my Angel’s Everywhere series to life in a whole new way,” said Debbie Macomber. “We all fell in love with Roma in the beloved classic ‘Touched by an Angel’ series, so partnering with her, LightWorkers Media and MGM Studios only made sense. I am thrilled to collaborate with an original on-screen angel who has had proven success with family-friendly entertainment.”

Downey most recently has been working with Emmy-Nominated producer Will Packer (Girls Trip, Straight Outta Compton, Ride Along, Roots) to executive produce “The Baxters,” based upon Karen Kingsbury’s New York Times bestselling literary series, “The Baxter Family.”
