Even with her reputation for embracing her diva status, Mariah has admitted she’s still taken aback by the song’s runaway success.
She first hammered out the melody on a tiny Casio keyboard in the early ’90s, explaining: "My goal was to do something timeless, so it didn’t feel like the nineties. I really, truly love the holidays. It’s not fake."

The track is officially the most-streamed Christmas song of all time and brings in an estimated €2.2–€3.4 million in royalties every year.

Her celebrations are as extra as you’d expect: "We go to Aspen, which is my favourite place because it’s always snowy," she previously told The Sun.
"We go on sleigh rides with the kids and my extended family, I cook, Santa Claus comes over — I know him personally, he’s my dude. We have live reindeer. It’s an extravaganza."
