The Killarney native has been dominating awards season and is looking more and more likely for Oscar glory for her role as Agnes Hathaway in the Chloe Zhaó-directed "Hamnet".

The big screen adaptation of the Maggie O’Farrell book with the same name sees Buckley star alongside fellow Irish heavyweight, Paul Mescal.

The film revolves around the love story between William Shakespeare and his wife Agnes, before and after the death of their son Hamnet, with Jessie’s portrayal of the character earning her major merit.

On Sunday night, the Kerry woman won the Best Actress award, and in doing so, became the first Irish person in Golden Globes history to win that category.

Accepting the award, Jessie extended her thanks to the cast and crew as she lauded the "extraordinary set."

She explained: "We were telling the story of probably the most famous Brit that ever lived and we have a Chinese director, a lot of Irish, a mostly Polish crew beside our British family."

 The actress also went on to namecheck the teams Polish key grip Tomasz Sternicki for bringing in soup to the set.

Further success came later in the night for the movie which also won the Globes’ Best Picture — Drama gong.

"Adolescence" was named Best Limited Series, Anthology Series of Motion Picture Made for Television, while stars of the show Stephen Graham, Owen Cooper and Erin Doherty all went up with awards.

The award for Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy was won by "One Battle After Another," while writer-director Paul Thomas Anderson and Teyana Taylor also picked up awards.

The Golden Globes was not available to watch in Ireland, however, RTÉ are showing highlights of the awards show on Monday from 9pm on RTÉ2 and RTÉ Player.
