Award-winning actor Daniel Day-Lewis is to be knighted by Queen Elizabeth.

The Wicklow resident is one of more than 1,100 people to be recognized in Queen Elizabeth’s Birthday Honors list, the Irish Times reports.

Day-Lewis, who holds three Oscars, four Baftas and many other awards, is known for his roles in "My Left Foot," "The Last of the Mohicans," "In The Name of the Father" and "Lincoln."

In 2009, he was named the first Freeman of Wicklow, where he lives with his wife, Rebecca Miller, and their two sons.

His father, the poet Cecil Day-Lewis, born in County Laois, was England's Poet Laureate and a CBE.

Fellow academy award-winner Angelina Jolie, who is included on the overseas and diplomatic list, is to become an honorary dame in recognition of her fight against sexual violence in war zones.

Other people to be honored include fashion designer Zandra Rhodes, former PSNI deputy chief constable Judith Gillespie, Northern Ireland Tourist Board chairman Howard Hastings, and Stephen Sutton, the internet campaigner and fundraiser, who died from bowel cancer last month at the age of 19.

There are 95 names on the Northern Ireland list, which includes rugby coach Warren Gatland, golf star Laura Davies, and Northern Ireland-born Kelly Gallagher, the first Briton to win a skiing gold medal at the Paralympics.
