For the third year running, Conradh na Gaeilge, Gael Linn and TikTok have joined forces to celebrate Lá na Teicneolaíochta (Technology Day) today as part of the Seachtain na Gaeilge 2026 festivities.

The annual event celebrates the role of technology in promoting and preserving the Irish language in the digital age, offering new opportunities for Irish speakers and learners worldwide to connect and engage with the language.

To celebrate Lá na Teicneolaíochta 2026, students and teachers from across Ireland gathered at TikTok's Dublin headquarters for a series of Irish language-focused discussions and workshops.

The event, organised by Conradh na Gaeilge [@cnagaeilge] in partnership with TikTok and Gael Linn (@Gael_Linn), provided an opportunity to experience Irish as a living language beyond the classroom and to explore its growing presence on social media platforms like TikTok.

A highlight of the event for students was a panel discussion hosted by Emma Ní Chearúil, manager of Raidió Rí-Rá, with prominent Irish-language TikTok creators: Laura Pakenham [@laurajpakenham], Shaun with a Fada [@shaunwithafada], and Ciara Ní É [@miseciara].

The panellists spoke about their experiences of bringing the Irish language to life online and the numerous opportunities they have received as a result of being on platforms like TikTok.

Speaking about his experience, Shaun with a Fada said: TikTok helps me connect with my community across the world, and for me, the Irish language is our common shared passion. It is alive and vibrant on the app, and today it’s great to have the opportunity to celebrate and discuss this with young people.

To showcase the energy and creativity of the Irish language in today’s digital world, over 60 students and their teachers participated in interactive workshops where they developed digital content, learned to create engaging social media posts, and experimented with innovative ways to use Irish on TikTok.

Speaking at the event TikTok’s Head of Ireland Elaine Fox said: "We’re delighted to welcome students from across Ireland to celebrate Lá na Teicneolaíochta 2026. It’s our third year celebrating this event here in TikTok's Dublin office, and its amazing to see how the Irish language continues to thrive and evolve on the platform.

"Working with Conradh na Gaeilge, we want to show just how creative and dynamic Irish-language content can be online and to celebrate the creators who bring it front and centre. We hope these young creators will continue to inspire a new wave of Irish-language expression in digital spaces."

Speaking about the event, Orlaith Nic Ghearailt, Manager of Seachtain na Gaeilge said: "Lá na Teicneolaíochta really shows how alive and creative the Irish language is online right now. It's great to see more young people use Irish in new ways in their digital storytelling.

"The collaboration continues to highlight the intersection of modern technology and the accessibility of the Irish language, bringing together the country’s oldest Irish-language organization with one of the world's leading social media platforms to celebrate that energy. I hope today sparks more people to try out the language so it can continue to grow.”

Seachtain na Gaeilge is organised by Conradh na Gaeilge and is funded by Foras na Gaeilge, and the Department for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht funds the Ciste Spreagtha. The festival was founded in 1902 and is the largest international festival celebrating the Irish language.
