Irish UFC fighter Conor McGregor was given a statue of himself for his 30th birthday that has been described as “hyper-realistic” by some.

The $66,000 (£50,000) sculpture took Lithuanian artist Edgar Askelovic over five months to create for the Dublin-native. Coming in at around 220lbs, it was entirely crafted by hand with the guidance of high-quality and detailed photographs to help accurately emulate his likeness.

“It is an honor Conor has accepted this as a gift from me,” Askelovic said.

“He is a phenomenon of our time - not just a smart athlete, but also a visionary.”

The sculpture, called ‘Atlas’, is expected to be revealed at McGregor’s birthday party at the JD Malat Gallery in London on Saturday.

Compared to the crude sculpture of Cristiano Ronaldo that was the subject of a fair share of jokes, this statue of ‘The Notorious’ is absolutely spot-on. We will just have to see if it helps spur the Crumlin man on to some wins in the future!
