A huge leap takes place at the IOHA Handball Gathering.

The Gathering Dublin continues to not only promote Irish sport but also show how great the Irish are at it. Recently the Irish Olympic Handball Association held a Gathering celebrating the sport and we are pleased to say that both the Irish Men's and Astra Ladies teams were the winners, in fact both were undefeated.

This is noteworthy when we consider that the Irish Men's team had a new couch as well as 8 players who were representing Ireland for the first time. Their first victory came on the Friday when they defeated the German team TG Biberach, followed by the Liverpool team Speke Garston and Deva B on Saturday. Their final opponents, Deva A, also were unable to defeat the Irish side.

Meanwhile, the ladies team from Astra Handball Club defeated both Speke Garston and then Lughnasa on Saturday. The next day Deva HC were also defeated, landing Astra Ladies a Gathering trophy to bring home.

Mayor of South Dublin, Councillor Dermot Looney and IOHA President Fintan Lyons presented the trophies to the winning team. With the continuing success of the Gatherings taking place in South Dublin, lets hope we can recreate the successes and spirit of participation of these Gatherings in future years.
